Just across the river and beyond downtown Kansas City lies the ‘Northland’ as locals call it. The Northland consists of communities that lie north of the Missouri River and include areas such as North Kansas City, Parkville, Liberty, Gladstone, Claycomo, Riverside, Weatherby Lake, Lake Waukomus, and Smithville. The Northland covers both Platte and Clay counties, with a large part within the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri. The Northland also extends farther north to include Platte City, Weston, Kearney, and Excelsior Springs.

Northlander’s love to shop. Like most suburbs, the Northland has many upscale strip shopping areas. You’ll find the Shops at Boardwalk (with Chico’s, Houlihan’s, Talbot’s) at I-29 and Barry Road and Shoal Creek Valley at I-52 and I-35, Zona Rosa, a shopping, dining and entertainment district at 8640 N. Dixson Avenue, Tuileries Plaza at I-29 and 64th Street, and Briarcliff Village at 4151 N. Mulberry Drive. Liberty Commons boasts the largest theater in the area at B and B Theaters along with tons of restaurant choices like McAlisters, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse and more.
